1. I've played the violin for 30 years. I'll never master it, but that's what makes it so fulfilling: she's a demanding mistress. In middle school, I was volunteered to play electric bass because of my violin background; for 2 years I played pop tunes like "Beat It" and "Billie Jean" and "Celebration." I was the nerd who became popular.

2. I am known as Beverage Boy. I drink constantly, but I'm not drawn much to booze. I can't stand beer. Sweet girly wine, please! Rum (just a splash in Diet Coke) will also do. I'm learning to like red wine.

3. I have a sweet tooth. Eight ounces of coffee requires 5 packs of Splenda. Ice cream is the bomb! I can skip cake. Pie is delicious.

4. I'm a left-wing liberal, but not the extremist my friends label me as: geez, I'm not a Communist! Maybe a Socialist. I believe in using collective resources (tax dollars) to help everyone: when your neighbor is lifted, you are lifted. I avoid all media coverage of politics because I just get angry.

5. I have been privileged by being dubbed an Honorary Brother. I grew up in what is now a majority-Black area (Prince George's County, Maryland). I have a great respect for Black culture. I'm a member of the NAACP.

6. Breakfast is my favorite meal, but only the kind that includes eggs, waffles, pancakes, French toast, grits, and hash browns. Generally, I can skip breakfast meat altogether.

7. I have eclectic taste in music: my CD collection, which includes at least 300 discs, includes James Brown and obscure baroque violin music. In fact, I really have only two favorite genres: classic soul/R&B/funk and baroque violin music. I only recently acquired an iPod.

8. I have a short fuse, but I keep it under control most of the time. This may be related to my anxiety and depression, both of which are under control. I'll be on medication my whole life: better living through pharmaceuticals.

9. I am very open-minded and can usually see both sides to a situation. This can lead to indecisiveness on my part, but it makes me a great listener to others.

10. I regularly attend church; I'm an Episcopalian. I was introduced to religion through somewhat fundamentalist denominations and was scared. I feel right at home in the Episcopal church: we're asked to question, and I'm inquisitive. My entire approach to religion is Love My Neighbor.

11. Random likes: nature, diners, the Big Screen, kitsch, 7-Eleven, organization, competence, bad TV, big engines, self-awareness, selflessness, positivity, forgiveness, humbleness, art, pop culture, independence, The Onion, respectful irreverence, honesty, compassion, emotional maturity.

12. I love for life.

13. I do not have a college degree. My highly accelerated academic program in high school burned me out. I left college after 2.5 years and a 3.8 GPA but no degree.

14. I read voraciously. I'm not the fastest reader, but I am never without a book. I usually read American history books, mostly on the Civil Rights Movement and the Vietnam War.

15. I have the greatest respect for my Mom and Dad and their accomplishments, way more respect than they realize. They left humble places and beginnings and made lives for themselves. They're awesome.
