Mimicry - a photo on Flickriver

Mimicry

The 'Bahurupi' is in the disguise of the Hindu God Lord Shiva. A group of folk performers who act and show different ancient characters from inspirational stories and entertain people in different ways are called Bahurupi (বহুরূপী). They portray many mythological characters from the epics like the Ramayana, Mahabharata, folk tales of gods and goddesses in disguise.

Every year according to the culture and rituals in India, in the end of Bengali calendar month 'Chaitra' and before the 'Charak Puja' ( worship of Hindu god lord Shiva) on 'Chaitra Sankranti' ,the last date of a Bengali year, they are seen in the villages and towns of Bengal. They can even be noticed in cities.
