The Golden Buddha #0023 - a photo on Flickriver

            The Golden Buddha Statue is situated in Yaowarat - the Chinatown of Bangkok. My wife has told me an interesting storie about it: The statue is older than 700 years. It most likely origins from Sukothai. It was transfered to Ayuthia around 1400 CE. Sometimes later, the statue was covered with a layer of plaster to conceal its actual value..King Rama I. has brought 1200 Buddha statues to Bangkok around 1800 CE. In 1955 the temple was renovated and the plaster coating was damaged, so the gold became visible. 

The building in the Wat Tramit temple, that houses the Golden Buddha is called Phra Maha Mondop and it was dedicated in 2008 BC.
