48167. Hoghton station LC 06 06 68 - a photo on Flickriver

            8F 2-8-0 no. 48167 blackens the sky as it passes through the station at Hoghton, midway between Preston and Blackburn with an eastbound goods on 6th. June 1968. The station here had closed 8 years earlier in 1960.

No 48167 was built by the LMS at Crewe in 1943. It had been based at loco sheds in the Midlands until contraction of steam operation had taken it to the North West. At the time of the photograph it was based at Rose Grove where it had arrived at the end of 1967. It was withdrawn from Rose Grove on the 3rd. of August 1968 when normal steam operation on British Railways ended.
