            Kite Aerial Photography of Fakarava Old  LighthouseThe Topaka tower was built in February 1957 in the north of Fakarava atoll, by a woman, Mrs. Taui Degage, with a team of men from Rurutu experienced in lime-based construction (coral powder). She was the contractor appointed by the equipment department of the time to build many lighthouses, most of which still exist!

This lighthouse of Topaka was used as a visual landmark by day and night for fishermen and boaters. It is 14.20 m high, has 10 steps, and is built with coral stones and cement.

This historical lighthouse is no longer in service because a new lighthouse has been built not far away and as it is unfortunately located in the airport protection zone, there is talk of demolishing it.

Why demolish it? It was there long before the runway was built. It is one of the few historical buildings in Fakarava, which tourists can admire.
