Eastern Indigo Snake (Drymarchon couperi)

            This large adult male Eastern Indigo was out basking on a mild day in Georgia.  The snakes in this region have a high percentage of positive SFD (Snake Fungal Disease) infections.  However, this disease does not seem to affect this species as drastically as it does other snakes.  Most of the crusting of the skin and ulcers will disappear after a few sheds.  These fungal blemishes tend to return chronically, but mostly in low numbers.
