Castillo de Villandry - a photo on Flickriver

Castillo de Villandry (Francia).
Fue en esta fortaleza medieval de Villandry donde tuvo lugar la "Paz de Colombiers" (dentro del periodo conocido como "la guerra de los cien años"), el 4 de julio de 1189, durante el cual Enrique II Plantagenet, rey de Inglaterra, se presentó ante Felipe Augusto, rey de Francia, para reconocer su derrota. De aquella época subsisten los cimientos y la torre del homenaje, reformados en el siglo XIV. El castillo renacentista se terminó en 1536. Su forma actual es fruto de diversas transformaciones, hasta el siglo XX.
Los jardines, actualmente con más de seis hectáreas dispuestas en cuatro niveles de terrazas fueron creados a la vez que el castillo renacentista, pero se transformó en un jardín inglés en el siglo XIX. Las fuentes y cenadores fueron restaurados a partir de 1994, siendo la última terraza inaugurada en 2008.
