Loch Ken Viaduct

Loch Ken is a 9-mile long freshwater loch in Dumfries and Galloway. It is fed from the north by the Water of Ken and from the west by the Dee.
It continues as the Dee south from Glenlochar, where the water is held back by the Glenlochar Barrage. Part of the Galloway hydro-electric power scheme.

The viaduct was a major structure on the the Portpatrick Railway (PPR), which connected Castle Douglas and Portpatrick, opened in 1861 and 1862 although the PPR was intended to revive the transit to the north of Ireland through Portpatrick, Stranraer became the dominant port.
The line closed in 1965 but fortunately the major structures like the viaduct and (I think) the rather elegant Glenluce Viaduct remain.
