Artwork 1: Essay by Alyssa
“I put my imagination into use with placement and colors of the various objects in my art. All my objects are science related. There’s a lot of imagination in this work of art. There’s a lot to look at and it all “pops.” My art is important to the present/future it shows how everything is changed or has changed. There’s objects from the past and present, and objects that’ll be there in the future.”

Artwork 2: Essay by Nic
“I chose unity as my POD for my Dream Rocket Project. I chose this because unity represents how all your artwork goes together, and that’s what mine shows in a focal way. The theme I chose was space. I feel as if this is important to present/future because space is constantly giving us information about what’s above us. These are the reasons why I chose space as my theme.”

Artwork 3: Essay by Courtney
“My drawing is of a girl pushing away vines to find an imaginary land. There is a huge castle, brightly colored butterflies, and a golden road. My drawing represents the theme of imagination because of all the aspects of fantasy that is in it. The castle represents princesses and the bright flowers and butterflies represent a magical land. Imagination is important because every great idea was once part of someone’s imagination.”

Artwork 4: Essay by Kennedy
“In Jacksonville, Florida a few months ago, I saw stop signs everywhere with words painted under them. The most common one was “Stop War.” I thought this was awesome. The painted stop signs are smaller voice begging to be heard. Although their voices may never matter, I found this peace movement in Jacksonville was bold and brilliant. That’s why I wanted to paint this stop sign for the Dream Rocket.”

How can I make a difference? In 2008, a group of educators and artists formed the International Fiber Collaborative (IFC) a non-profit organization with a mission to create deeper learning experiences through art, collaboration, and cross-curricular programming for individuals and their communities.
IFC’s current initiative, The Dream Rocket Project, started in 2009 has exhibited submissions in over 105 venues; in 2014 submissions will be connected side by side to wrap a 363’ Saturn V Moon Rocket replica at the U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL (48’ taller than the Statue of Liberty).
With every artwork received a student has had to ask; what is my dream for my future, and the future of my community and our world? How can students across our nation with many skills collaborate to make a difference? How can creativity and other subjects such as space, technology, science, and leadership inspire innovation? How can I make a difference?
