Latest news! I've just had about 1,000 of my negatives from the 1980s professionally scanned - so here is a random choice from the archives, with many, many months worth of quality uploads to come - Happy Days 😍 :)

During the 1980s, whilst travelling around the British Rail network, I made a number of tape recordings to capture the railway scene of the time, many from the front window, some from the platform, using my trusty ghetto-blaster - and now these recordings can finally be heard :)

The fine art of bashing - steam-heat memories from the 1980s With steam-heat soon coming to an end, I made the trip north to see what I could sample. Here we see a 'lucky strike' with a gorgeous pair of steam' heat BRCW Type 2 Class 26s (26038 + 26041) at the head of a Far North service to Wick & Thurso 😍 :) Note the headlight fitted for Highland duties. As Colin Partington has mentioned below, the Class 26s (including 26038) usually had twin headlights fitted, for working on the Far North ans Kyle lines, and these have been plated over on 26038.

And the bad news... I was on my way home after a long weekend based at Kyle of Lochalsh - on arrival at Inverness behind 37260 'Radio Highland" I was greeted by this amazing sight! All the Highland services had switched from Class 26s to steam-heat Class 37s by this time, and I was duly gob-smacked. Sadly, I had to make a connection (my train seen on the far platform) and I had no time even for a Dingwall or even Muir of Ord move! For me, it was 47464 on the 12.21 Inverness - Edinburgh for a Tram home to London 😬

Taken with a Soviet made Zenith TTL camera and standard lens. Scanned from the original negative with no digital restoration - the image a tad grainy due to the film stock used which I think was Kodak ASA 200 print film.
