Col du Galibier - a photo on Flickriver

Col du Galibier

            Climb the Galibier they said. You will see an overwhelming panoramic vista they said. 
Well...  ;-)

Oh bugger, you can't have steel blue skies everytime, can you?
So we found the summit but it was a hard and cold affair. It didn't help that it was on the longest stage with around 145 km at the end and after already having topped the 2600 m sea level with the Col de l'Iséran as first climb of the day.

Fahr' den Galibier hoch, sagten sie. Du wirst ein überwältigendes Bergpanorama sehen, sagten sie. 
Nun... ;-)

Ach, Sch... drauf. Man kann nicht immer stahlblaue Himmel haben, oder? Nun, wir haben uns zur Passhöhe vortasten können, aber das war ein gutes und kaltes Stück Arbeit. Es hat auch nicht geholfen, dass dies das Ende der mit rund 145 km längsten Etappe war, an deren Beginn wir mit dem Col de l'Iséran bereits einmal die 2600 m Meeresspiegel deutlich überschritten hatten.
