            RD17567.  Question: When is an Avonside not an Avonside?   

Answer: When it's a Hunslet like CHAKA'S KRAAL No.6!   

This attractive looking 2ft gauge 0-4-2T was built by Hunslets in 1940, but to a design of the Avonside Engine Company of Bristol which the Hunslet Engine Company in Leeds had taken over in 1934.  It spent its working life on a Sugar estate in Natal, South Africa, but now lives in retirement on the Toddington Narrow Gauge Railway in Gloucestershire.  

Over the weekend 22nd - 24th June, 2018 however, CHAKA'S KRAAL No. 6 had a trip to the 2ft gauge Ffestiniog Railway in  North Wales which held a gala to celebrate the 125th birthday of the 1893 built 2-4-0 ST/T Hunslets LINDA and BLANCHE.   

Lots of other 2ft gauge engines built by the Hunslet Engine Company in Leeds also came to the party, so 'CHAKA' was in good company.  

In this shot it is loaded onto the back of a lorry ready for the journey back home to Toddington.
