D24798(vid). Over the weekend 25th / 26th September, 2021 the Isle of Wight Steam Railway ran a 1960s weekend with a small display of 1960s cars and 1960s music to supplement the 1960s steam trains. One of the groups performing over the weekend was ‘The Hillmans’, a local group from Ventnor, and this is their final medley before signing off.

Firstly we hear ‘Johnny B. Goode’ which was a hit for Chuck Berry in 1958 but later recorded by The Beatles in 1964. Next comes ‘Blue Suede Shoes’ recoded by Carl Perkins in 1955 but then made famous by Elvis Presley in 1956. It was later recorded by many others including John Lennon in 1969. The show ends with ‘Great Balls of Fire’, a smash hit for Gerry Lee Lewis in 1957.

The guitarist on the left is Dick Taylor who was one of the founder members of The Rolling Stones and who later formed The Pretty Things.
