Tiny humpbacked fly on Telegraph Weed - Geron, Bombyliidae

            Here is another shot of the tiny humpbacked fly that I show in my [Previous] photo on the left.  I believe it's an atypical Bee Fly in the family Bombyliidae, probably in the genus Geron. The name sounds like "gerontology" - imagine a humpbacked old man with a cane instead of a proboscis.  Julie calls it a "Kokopelli Fly" - which is perfect.  The flower belongs to native Telegraph Weed (Heterotheca grandiflora, Asteraceae).  The plant is kind of weedy, but it flowers in the fall when not much else is available, and insects and spiders like it.  (San Marcos Pass, 27 September 2019)
