Presa de Mont Saint Michel-5 - a photo on Flickriver

            La bahía en la que están la península y la famosa Abadía de Mont Saint Michel es escenario de mareas extremas, hasta el punto de que, en ocasiones, la península se convierte en isla. Esas mareas tan llamativas son un gran inconveniente para las poblaciones cercanas, pues la marea se adentra a gran velocidad por el río Couesnon con riesgo de inundaciones en los campos limítrofes.
Esta peculiar presa permite regular la subida y bajada de la marea.
Además, la parte superior de la presa es un puente peatonal que permite asomarse en ambas direcciones y disfrutar tanto del espectáculo del agua entrando hacia el interior como de la subida o bajada de la marea en la bahía, teniendo como fondo la abadía.
