Today I'm putting up a set that records a memorable walk that I took in mid-May around Lower Slaughter, Upper Slaughter, Naunton, and the Windrush Valley in the Cotswolds. I had breakfast at my B&B, Treetops, in Moreton-in-Marsh, and then took the first bus through Stow-on Wold to the Slaughter Pike stop, from which it was less than one-half mile into Lower Slaughter. I had a look around it and the church and mill, then took the beautiful walk along the River Eye into the less crowded but equally scenic Upper Slaughter.

I was fortunate enough to stumble into a small luxury country house boutique hotel, the Lords of the Manor. www.lordsofthemanor.com/ I had wanted to make it to the next Village, Naunton, but was not sure how I would manage to do that and still get back to the crowded Bourton-on-the Water in time for the last bus back to Moreton. The very helpful concierge (I didn't even get his name) served me morning tea and marked my map with a circular route that would get me back to his establishment in time for afternoon tea, and he offered to then call a taxi to take me back to my B&B. This was a great idea - a little more expensive, but so much more "civilized". (As you can see from the pictures, they still serve loose tea with a strainer. When I told him that even the National Trust Tearooms had gone to teabags, his indignant reaction was "Over Our Dead Bodies!")
