            Commune de l'aire urbaine de Figeac située à 9 km au nord-ouest de Figeac, à la limite du Limargue (région agricole riche) et du Ségala (région pauvre produisant du seigle et des châtaignes), Cardaillac a un patrimoine médiéval riche et il est l'un des plus beaux villages de France. son nom apparaît au VIIIe siècle. Le Chevalier Bertrand prit le nom Cardaillac lorsque le roi Pépin le Bref lui confia ces terres.
Cardaillac fut le fief de la branche ainée de la famille de Cardaillac. Une place forte fut bâtie à partir de 1064 sur un promontoire rocheux à la demande de Hugues baron de Cardaillac. Il en reste aujourd'hui trois tours du XIIIe siècle. En 1188, il subit l'assaut de Richard Cœur de Lion, qui devint par la suite roi d'Angleterre.

Cardaillac is a commune in the Lot department in south-western France.

It is located 9 km (5.6 mi) northwest of Figeac.

The village is located on the edge of the Limargue—a rich agricultural region—and Ségala, a poor rye- and chestnut-producing region. It has a rich medieval history and has been officially listed as one of the "most beautiful French villages".

A stronghold was built on a rocky promontory above Cardaillac from 1064 at the orders of Hugo, lord of Cardaillac. Today only three towers remain, dating from the thirteenth century. In 1188 it was attacked by Richard the Lionheart soon before his accession to the throne.

On 11 May 1944 three youths were executed by the "Das Reich" division, which subsequently massacred the population of Oradour-sur-Glane.
