The Doesmolen and Kalkmolen like twins in the rural Dutch landscape

Hoogmade is a town in the Dutch province of Zuid-Holland. The town is located in a rural setting in a typically Dutch landscape. The picturesque village of Oud-Ade which is build along de Does waterway. Located near the Wijde Aa it is a lovely place to stay. It is an area of water surrounded by land and many mills. There are various activities available. In the vicinity are many water sports. You can rent boats and canoes and fishing rods are available. The Doesmolen mill and Kalkmolen mill lie in the Green Heart in the province of Zuid-Holland. It is located along a dike, note the boats higher than the land level of foreground. The mills were built for pumping the land dry.They are build in 1640 and 1685, where meadows, ditches and typical Dutch windmills define a landscape perfect for walking, cycling, boating and swimming. But you can also think a ride on a horse. Hoogmade is a village in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is located about 7 km east of Leiden, in the municipality of Kaag en Braassem. Hoogmade was a separate municipality between 1817 and 1855, when it merged with Woubrugge.

The historic Grosmolen and Kalkmolen are windmills located in the rural landscape of Gemeente Kaag en Braassem, South Holland, Netherlands.

Midden in het groene hart van de Randstad ligt het dorp Hoogmade. Het is een dorp in de Zuid-Hollandse gemeente Kaag en Braassem en ligt ten oosten van Leiden en ten noordwesten van Alphen aan den Rijn. Hoogmade ligt aan het riviertje de Does. Ten oosten ligt de Wijde Aa met veel mogelijkheden voor watersport en recreatie. In Hoogmade zelf is een leuke dorpskern aanwezig met winkels en horeca en als je van het buitenleven houdt kunt u in de omgeving heerlijk fietsen, wandelen en varen. Hoogmade wordt sinds de dertiende eeuw genoemd in geschriften. Het had van circa 1255 tot 1795 grote zelfstandigheid. Sinds 1855 behoorde Hoogmade tot de gemeente Woubrugge en sinds 1 januari 2009 behoort Hoogmade tot de gemeente Kaag en Braassem, een samengaan van Alkemade en Jacobswoude. De Doesmolen rechts te zien is een wipmolen nabij Hoogmade. De molen is de eerste aan de Doespolderweg die te zien is wanneer men vanuit het westen Hoogmade nadert; op korte afstand van de Doesmolen bevindt zich langs dezelfde weg de Grosmolen.De Doesmolen is in 1630 gebouwd ten behoeve van de bemaling van de Doespolder. Hij was tot 1953 in bedrijf, waarna hij na een periode van stilstand in 1963 is overgedragen aan de Rijnlandse Molenstichting die de Doesmolen in 1965 heeft gerestaureerd. De molen is maalvaardig. Links staat de de Kalkmolen afkomstig uit de kalkpolder. De molen dateert uit 1685 Door verplaatsing van de Kalkmolen in 2009 naar een plekje vlakbij de Doesmolen is een nieuwe molengang gecreëerd die vanaf 2010 functioneel is.
