Montenegro is a country in Eastern Europe bordering Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania and the Adriatic Sea. It used to be a part of Yugoslavia. The capital is Podgorica. The name Montenegro is Italian and means Black mountain. Montenegro was an independent princedom between 1878 and 1910 and an independent kingdom until 1918. That year Montenegro became part of Yugoslavia. In 2003 Yugoslavia was transformed into the new country of Serbia and Montenegro, but this fell apart in 2006 when both countries went their separate ways. Montenegro is therefore the youngest country in Europe. Montenegro is not a member of the European Union, but it is a member of NATO. Despite the fact that Montenegro is not yet an EU Member State, people do pay with the euro. Montenegro may be small, but this beautiful nation has a huge array of natural and man-made wonders. Once overlooked in favor of more famous Mediterranean countries, Montenegro is quickly gaining a reputation as a great place to travel. It's easy to see why. The mountainous hinterland is home to deep gorges, flowing rivers, glacial lakes and old-growth forests, popular for adventure activities. The winding coast runs along pretty blonde bays overlooking the royal blue Adriatic Sea, ancient Venetian villages and UNESCO-walled towns. You get a beautiful view of the Kotor bay from the P1 road to the top of mountain Lovćen, a somewhat steep and very narrow route. At the foot of the Lovćen mountain Cetinje Monastery can be found. It is a center of historical and cultural importance of Montenegro. The Court Church in Ćipur is a Serbian Orthodox church located in the Ćipur neighborhood of Cetinje, Montenegro. The church is dedicated to the Birth of the Most Holy Mother of God and is located on the historical site of Ćipur in the historical core of Cetinje. The Court Church built by King Nikola. King Nikola and Queen Milena’s remains were buried here after having been brought from San Remo to Cetinje in 1989.

Cetinje is the former capital of Montenegro. Cetinje Monastery is a monastery of the Serbian Orthodox Church. It is a center of historical and cultural importance and was founded in 1484 by Prince Ivan Crnojević of Zeta. The Cetinje Monastery is the main monument of this town at the foot of the Lovćen mountain, where the destiny of the Montenegrin people was determined and where it was formed. It was built in 1701 by Bishop-Prince Danilo. Due to its historical mission played out over several centuries, Cetinje Monastery was the center of spirituality, free-thinking, humane and enlightenment ideas, rightfully occupying a prominent place in the overall Montenegrin history. There are several relics in the monastery. The richness and special features of the preserved objects make it one of the most important and richest in Montenegro. A special collection of manuscripts and old printed books from the 13th to 18th centuries is of particular interest. Montenegro is een land in Oost-Europa en grenst aan Bosnië en Herzegovina, Servië, Kosovo, Albanië en de Adriatische Zee. Vroeger was het een deel van Joegoslavië. Het Cetinje-klooster is een klooster van de Servisch-orthodoxe kerk in Montenegro. Het is een centrum van historisch en cultureel belang en werd in 1484 gesticht door prins Ivan Crnojević van Zeta. Het Cetinje-klooster is het belangrijkste monument van deze stad aan de voet van de berg Lovćen, waar het lot van het Montenegrijnse volk werd bepaald en waar het werd gevormd. Bij de ingang vervaagde fresco's op de gevel die ooit zo levendig waren als die binnenin. De Hofkerk in Ćipur is een Servisch-orthodoxe kerk in de wijk Ćipur in Cetinje. De kerk is gewijd aan de geboorte van de Allerheiligste Moeder van God en bevindt zich op de historische plaats Ćipur in de historische kern van Cetinje. De kerk is gebouwd uit wit steen. Klein, maar zeer mooi van binnen en gebouwd op de ruïnes van het oude Cetinje-klooster. Voor een Servische orthodoxe monnik is het klooster het centrum van het universum. Het is de kribbe waarin hij wordt geboren, de schaduwrijke boom waaronder hij zit en van waaruit de appel op zijn schoot valt. Van deze boom maakt hij ook het kruis waaraan hij wordt gekruisigd. De meerderheid van de oosters-orthodoxe mensen in Montenegro zijn aanhangers van de Servisch-orthodoxe kerk. Maar Montenegro is een zeer tolerant land. Hier worden naast elkaar orthodoxe en katholieke kerken, moslim moskeeën en protestantse kerken gebouwd en bestaan ze vreedzaam naast elkaar.
