Tragic memory of a beautiful young woman in the fifteenth century

The old quarter Casco Antiguo – Santa Cruz of the city of Alicante is located below the castle. The district has retained the charm of a coastal village, with its steep, narrow, winding streets, with its white facades, its wrought iron bars and its colorful balconies thanks to the pots full of flowers. At no. 16 hangs the picture Belleza Barrio Santa Cruz. A beautiful woman who lived in the fifteenth century with the curious story of love and death near Santa Cruz.

The "beautiful Fembra", as she was also called, was daughter of Diego Ben Susón, a character who stood out in the city for dominating commerce, although coveting the political power he would never have because of his religious status. Diego Ben Susón tried to organize that uprising in old Híspalis... One night his daughter, unconsciously, heard everything that was going to happen, the whole plan. Fate caused the young woman, courted by a Christian lord, to tell him everything and his brave nobleman to report the events to the city authorities. The next morning the bailiffs and a large group of knights arrested all the traitors and her father, who were immediately tried and sentenced to death. The girl ran to church to ask for a confession, a confession that a priest granted her, but... There is no more forgiveness than the forgiveness one bestows on oneself and the young woman who had not given, aware of the seriousness of her act. After finally receiving the grace of forgiveness, she entered a monastery where she tried to give her soul a little rest... But she couldn't do that either. In the moments before her death she wished to leave her will: And that it may be an example to young men to bear witness to my misfortune, I command that when I am dead they sever my head from my body and put it on a nail above the door hangs from my house, and remains there forever and ever. It remained there, to the horror and horror of all, until the end of the 17th century, a memory of a story that did not go unnoticed, the memory of a betrayal, the remorse for life, the forgiveness that only yourself could give.

De oude wijk Casco Antiguo – Santa Cruz van de stad Alicante ligt onder het kasteel. De wijk heeft de charme van een kustdorp behouden, met zijn steile, smalle, kronkelende straatjes, met zijn witte gevels, zijn smeedijzeren tralies en zijn kleurrijke balkons dankzij de potten vol met bloemen. Bij nr. 16 hangt de foto Belleza Barrio Santa Cruz. Een mooie vrouw die in de vijftiende eeuw leefde met het merkwaardige verhaal van liefde en dood in de buurt van Santa Cruz. De mooie Fembra, zoals ze ook wel werd genoemd was dochter van Diego Ben Susón, een personage dat in de stad opviel door het domineren, de handel, hoewel hij de politieke macht begeerde die hij nooit zou hebben vanwege zijn religieuze status. Diego Ben Susón probeerde die opstand in het oude Híspalis te organiseren... Op een nacht hoorde zijn dochter, onbewust, alles wat er ging gebeuren, het hele plan. Het lot zorgde ervoor dat de jonge vrouw, het hof gemaakt door een christelijke heer, hem alles vertelde en zijn dappere edelman om de gebeurtenissen aan het stadsbestuur te melden. De volgende ochtend arresteerden de gerechtsdeurwaarders en een grote groep ridders alle verraders en haar vader die onmiddellijk werden berecht en ter dood veroordeeld. Het meisje rende naar de kerk om een bekentenis te vragen, een bekentenis die een priester haar verleende, maar... Er is niet meer vergeving dan de vergeving die men zichzelf schenkt en de jonge vrouw die niet had gegeven, zich bewust van de ernst van haar daad. Nadat zij eindelijk de genade van vergeving had ontvangen, ging zij een klooster binnen waar ze probeerde haar ziel een beetje rust te geven... Maar ook dat lukte haar niet. In de ogenblikken voor haar dood wilde ze haar testament achterlaten: En opdat het een voorbeeld kan zijn voor jonge mensen om te getuigen van mijn ongeluk, beveel ik dat wanneer ik dood ben, ze mijn hoofd van mijn lichaam scheiden en het aan een spijker boven de deur hangt van mijn huis, en daar blijft voor altijd en eeuwig. Het bleef daar, tot afgrijzen en schrik van iedereen, tot het einde van de 17de eeuw, een herinnering aan een verhaal dat niet onopgemerkt bleef, de herinnering aan een verraad, het wroeging voor het leven, de vergeving die alleen jezelf kon schenken.
