Raindrop Rhapsody:

To see the raindrops,
Tumble down the glass
Stirs the fluttering heart
Of a feeling soul,
Recalling childhood days;
Days of sad solitude,
Surrounded by other boys,
Who did not hear the rain
Whispering sadness in my ear,
Watering my pained heart.

Raindrops, heard in bed,
Plenty enough, to turn my head.
When falls the rain,
Pitter-patter on the roof,
It runs in rivulet down the pane,
Of my bedroom window.
I pull up the blankets,
And cherish the warm,
For soon I shall go out,
Riding my 1915 bike to work.

Riding through the rain,
Smearing my glasses,
The welcome chill air,
Clears my head.
But I dream of England,
Of days of solitary thoughts,
Sharing a room with other boys,
Yet, inwardly, alone.
My heart filled with rain,
As it ran down my soul.

As I gaze at the raindrops,
I think back again,
To the poems I wrote
As a schoolboy...about rain,
And, once again, I feel the pain
