Pebble Island Raiders - a photo on Flickriver

            On this night in 1982, 45 commandos of D company, 22nd Regiment Special Air Service, helicoptered to a remote island to the north west of West Falkland.  Their goal was to attack and destroy Argentine aircraft based on the Falkland Islands that could be used for close air support.  The raid was a smashing success, infiltrating undetected, destroying all 11 aircraft, and extracting under cover of naval gunfire from HMS Glamorgan.  

I wanted to challenge myself with this scene by conducting it all on the day it happened.  This included building the FMA Pucara aircraft in the background and setting up the diorama.  Not quite my usual pace but it was a fun experiment!
