Braun Super II Rangefinder - a photo on Flickriver

The Braun Super II (also known as the Super Paxette) was made in Nurnberg, Germany, circa 1950's.  They were exported - primarily to the UK after WWII.  They were made to a price (meaning they were not that well-made) because the UK still had restrictions on the retail value of items that could be imported into the UK from Germany.  That meant Leicas were still right out, but the Braun Paxette was permitted, as it cost less.

The Super II (Paxette) used a 39mm thread-mount lens similar to the Leica "LTM" lens, but the thread spacing is slightly different, and the lens 'flange-to-film' distance is completely off.  That means that you may be able to screw a lens meant for a Super II (Paxette) onto a Leica, but it will not function correctly.  It will seem to engage the rangefinder coupling, but trust me, it will not work.

Many are the eBay sellers who have sold Paxette lenses at ridiculous prices as 'Leica' lenses to unsuspecting collectors.  If I see one such on eBay, I'll usually write to the seller to inform them, but you would not believe the snotty 'mind-your-own-business' responses I get, so um, caveat emptor, I guess.
