The Shaft Dedication - a photo on Flickriver

            The re-dedication of the 1866 Civil War Memorial, known locally as The Shaft, at Springdale Cemetery, on October 12, 2019 - with Color Guard mid-volley in a 21-gun salute.

Originally located on the Peoria County Courthouse lawn, it was removed in 1962 for a major upgrade to the courthouse. And then it was more or less lost.For 50+ years. A small band of Peorian's did the detective work and found what was left, laying in the tall grass near Detweiller Marina, and began the large and bureaucratic effort to get the missing pieces rebuilt (quarried from the same quarry as the original) and the monument settled on ground near where it was supposed to sit in 1866.
