[NL] Met zijn pasteltinten en ronde vormen is deze Lloyd Alexander TS een typisch Duitse ‘Kleinwagen’ uit de jaren vijftig. Dit TS-model, wat staat voor ‘Touring Sport’, is voorzien van een 25 pk tweecilinder viertaktmotor met 596 cc inhoud, gekoppeld aan een volledig gesynchroniseerde vierversnellingsbak. Daarmee kan deze net geen 600 kilogram wegende vierzitter volgens de fabriek een topsnelheid behalen van circa 110 km/u. Dat mag erg ambitieus klinken, maar de 12-uursrace van Hockenheim (D) in 1958 wordt gewonnen door een Alexander TS met een gemiddelde snelheid van 110,7 km/u.

Van de Lloyd Alexander worden alleen al in 1959 zo’n 40.000 exemplaren verkocht. Niettemin houdt het moederbedrijf, de Borgward Groep, in 1961 op te bestaan. Voor Lloyd valt het doek twee jaar later.

[EN] The rounded form and pastel colours of this Lloyd Alexander TS are instantly recognisable as those of a German ‘Kleinwagen’ (small car) of the 1950s. This TS model (Touring Sport) has a 25 hp, two-cylinder, 596 cc four-stroke engine and an all-synchromesh four-speed gearbox. The four-seater weighs less than 600 kg and the factory claimed it could reach a top speed of approximately 110 km/h. That may have sounded rather ambitious, but the 1958 Hockenheim 12-hour race in Germany was won by an Alexander TS at an average speed of 110.7 km/h.

Around 40,000 Lloyds Alexander were sold in 1959 alone, yet the parent company Borgward Group folded in 1961. Lloyd followed two years later.
