Blythe-a-Day#11. Frankenstein. Harmony or Orange. Favorite Book &Reading&Writing: Donna& Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein"

            Donna, a book lover, is reading Mary Shelley's novel "Frankenstein." She is surprised that it is so different from the different Frankenstein movies she has seen on TV and that The Creature is such a sympathetic character. 

"He's put together from dead stuff so he's horribly ugly, he's abandoned by his creator, and he wants companionship," Donna feels. "Dr. Frankenstein better help him--or else! I don't think the Creature will ever let him go!"

After she puts the book aside for the day, Donna imagines what it might be like to be teenaged Mary Shelley and to read parts of her manuscript of "Frankenstein" to her future husband, poet Percy Shelly, and Lord Byron....

On 'a dark and stormy night,'* she stands near the window, ready to open her book. But she senses that something is near her, just out of sight.

She doesn't see the hideous being whose gnarled hands are reaching through the window [on the left]... He is coming for her, his true Creator...

**I think the novel actually uses that immortal phrase. "Frankenstein" is just one of several of my favorite reading experiences--it's so passionate.

**Of course, Mary Shelley began writing "Frankenstein" when she was 18 and it was published, I believe, when she was 20.
