Pastel Wonderland No More! - a photo on Flickriver

While we've just begun our look around the now-former Stuart Winn-Dixie, I feel the need to interrupt this photoset with a quick update about another Winn-Dixie store covered on AFB on flickr a few months ago. Doing some research this evening, I just discovered that the Fort Pierce Winn-Dixie (which I referred to quite often in that photoset as "The Pastel Wonderland") has been remodeled! (Even if you've seen those photos before, another look at that store's funky old decor is worth it!) Prior to this remodel, the Fort Pierce Winn-Dixie had a crazy version of the longtime Winn-Dixie Marketplace decor that dated back to the early 1990's, where they did not cheap out on the use of pastel colors!

According to the article I found, the Fort Pierce Winn-Dixie completed its remodel on May 2, 2018. The pastels are no more, with this store now sporting the red and white "Down Down" decor that's gradually been becoming more widespread of late. Down Down isn't the most exciting decor in the world, and it still looks a bit forced in the older stores that have been getting remodeled to it. Flickr: Explore!. Some of the departments in this store were rearranged, such as Wine and Beer moving between the deli and produce and floral moving up to the front near the entrance. A new dollar section was also added here (a concept which originated from Fresco y Mas and Harvey's), and it looks like the tile backsplash behind the service counters was updated. While still fairly simple in most ways, this appears to have been one of Winn-Dixie's better thought out remodels of late. While I'm not the biggest fan of the current Winn-Dixie decor due to how bland it can look at times, they did a decent job of making it work at the Fort Pierce store (at least from the few photos I saw of it online). I do have to say, I like the new paint job on the exterior. The next time I'm down this way I'll have to make a stop here and see in person how the remodel turned out (and probably get some more pictures). This store is fairly isolated from any other grocery stores, so I imagine it does well for Winn-Dixie. For on older Winn-Dixie, this was actually one of the better taken care ones prior to its remodel. While the previous decor was quite old and outdated, it still looked presentable and the store was quite clean. There are still plenty of other less-than-stellar looking Winn-Dixie stores out that that haven't been touched in 20+ years, so Winn-Dixie still has their work cut out for themselves. According to some recent articles I've read, SEG is trying to increase their remodeling program as well as push more Fresco y Mas conversions. I don't know if it's too little to late for that as far as a way to help their financial situation, but at least Winn-Dixie appears to be trying to push remodels on a wider scale for the first time since emerging from their original bankruptcy in the late 2000's.

So that's all I have as far as this (rather long-winded) update is concerned. Tomorrow we'll travel back down US 1 to the Stuart Winn-Dixie for more photos.
