I Asked Her If I Could Shoot Her Really Quick...

            Her: Whu...whu...whut?

Just a language barrier, I promise...

A good British friend of mine told me once that when I say something like, "I shot a bird that I have never seen before", that it sounds REALLY odd to her.
I now try to always say, "photograph", so I'm not pegged as a serial killer. :)

I'm in Texas, one day, years ago, back in the late 70's, a friend and I were taking pictures of sailboats, just testing some new 35mm camera gear. After we finished we sat there in the large parking lot beside the water, in my truck, drinking a beer, both doors were open and we talked for at least an hour watching the sun go down.

Relaxing, and sipping on that beer.

After a while, we decided to leave and, -click!-click!-click!- 
Dead battery...

Nobody was around except a woman and her preteen daughter sitting in their car all of that time, they were around a couple of hundred feet away or so. 
It was a long walk, and she knew that we were coming to her, nobody else around.

We walked over there (it was almost sunset) and I walked as casually as I could to not look too threatening, but also not goofy. :)
When I got to her, she rolled the window down 'just a little', and I asked...

*This is why I mentioned that I was from Texas...*

I said, "Can I get you to jump off my truck?"

She fearfully said, "I beg your pardon?" in a thick British accent... She looked at me as though I were insane.

Again, I said, "Can you please jump off my truck? It won't take long".

She said, "Wot?... You want me to go over there and jump off of your truck? Why?".

Well, since she was literally talking plain English it was then that I realized what I had actually said... 

See, here, we say it like that when we want a battery jump-started, it's just normal, but I could sure see how that wouldn't be the case to most people. :)

I never laughed so hard in my life after I realized what had just happened. She was just glad that we weren't killers, I guess, so she 'jumped off my truck' and got out of there.  :)
