White Ibis form Busch Gardens, Tampa, Florida 12-26-2017_DSC_4807

            Based on the legend from the Birecik area, the Ibis is one of the very first birds that Noah released as a sign of fertility. The Ibis is a symbol of communication, probing, transition and trust.

The mascot of the University of Miami in Florida is a White Ibis, affectionately called Sebastian the Ibis. Legend has it that they choose the White Ibis for their heroic ability to withstand hurricanes, which is the name of the university’s football team.
