            Sigirîya – appelé aussi Simhagîri, rocher du lion – est un site archéologique majeur, ancienne capitale royale du Sri-Lanka. Kassapa fait bâtir au sommet du rocher une forteresse.
Pour monter il faut environ 1300 marches, mais avec au sommet les différents dénivelés et aussi celles pour aller voir ,les fresques le parcourt total en fait environ 1800.

Sigirîya - also known as Simhagîri, or Lion's Rock - is a major archaeological site and the former royal capital of Sri Lanka. Kassapa I, the eldest son of the Anurâdhapura king Dhatusena, who was born to a concubine, came into conflict with his younger brother Moggallana in the 5th century.  He chose the site of Sigirîya because of the immense rock, 370 metres high, with steep walls that acted as impressive walls, and the presence ten kilometres away of a tank, a water reservoir that his father had once dug. The work to develop the site was relatively short compared to the difficulty and scale of the task.
Kassapa had a fortress built on top of the rock.
It takes around 1,300 steps to climb to the top, but with the differents levels at the top and the steps to see the frescoes, the total is around 1,800.
