Dauphins (Dijon, France)-101 - a photo on Flickriver

            Dijon, Palais des ducs de Bourgogne, place du même nom.
En architecture le dauphin est une bouche inférieure d’un tuyau de descente des eaux pluviales qui permet d’envoyer l’eau dans le caniveau. Cette pièce est ainsi dénommée car elle est souvent décorative et sa forme a été inspirée, dès le XVIe siècle, par les dauphins animaux. Cet ornement que l'on retrouve aussi dans la décoration des fontaines est souvent reproduit avec une tête volumineuse.
