Its a Crab !

            For many years the Hughes Fowler crabs were a familiar sight around Burton upon Trent and the whole of the Reidinger rotary valve gear locos were allocated to Burton Shed to take advantage of the local fitters expertise in such matters. After withdrawl of these engines in 1962, a Crab became a relatively rare sight, so no doubt the appearance of Nottingham Shed’s 42799 on an Easter excursion in 1963 was a welcome change from the Jubilees which Burton received as replacements..

Although not apparently in the best of health 42799 makes a stirring sight at Branston foot crossing heading south.
