Austin bats - a photo on Flickriver

Austin bats

            One evening, I stood on the Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge over the Colorado River, just south of downtown Austin, Texas, and watched the bats fly out from under the bridge.

They are Mexican free-tailed bats.  From March through October, about 1.5 million bats emerge nightly from crevices in the underside of the bridge.
