Titanic Exhibit - Saunders County Museum

            The Saunders County Museum is located in Wahoo, Nebraska.

Carl ' Titanic' Johnson, a native of Sweden, sailed on the Titanic when immigrating to Wahoo, Nebraska, to join his brother.  

His story is unique because he was one of the few men who sailed in steerage class AND went into the water when the ship sank AND survived.

His boarding pass was in his coat pocket and survived the sinking.  A copy of it is on display.  The museum has the original which is in storage for preservation purposes.

After immigrating, he served in the US Army during World War I.  His uniform is on display.

In 1923, he married by paternal grandfather's first cousin, Edith Syverson.  He was a close family friend and was the best man at my paternal grandfather's wedding.

Carl 'Titanic' Johnson died in Wahoo, in 1978 at the age of 87
