All To Myself

            The QJ sure took its time departing west from Bureau Jct, giving us quite the wait. Initially I was not alone at this isolated crossing near Tiskilwa, but after about an hour of waiting, I was left alone as my new acquaintance decided to go to town for both phone service and a different shot. Lo and behold, barely five minutes later my scanner told me they were departing Bureau, and it wouldn’t be long now.

To my surprise, nobody else came to the crossing as the 6988 neared it. I was truly here by myself, and as soon as the headlight poked around the corner, that Guatemalan whistle pierced the air. What a sound, and what a show this engine can put on - a show that, for a moment, I had all to myself.
