St Agnes Head - a photo on Flickriver

St Agnes Head

            Sometimes, well ok a lot of the time, I'm the most terrible eejit. Sitting on a 60 degree angled cliff in the evening drizzle watching my camera bag slowly and agonisingly rolling down the slope towards oblivion, disgorging its contents as it went and causing a mini avalanche of gear was one that's going to have me waking up in the small hours in a sweat every night for the next week or two. As everything else eventually came to a halt and in ascending order of value, my wide angle lens continued in its bid to reach the Atlantic Ocean while 3 of us watched in silent horror. It was 50 yards from where I sat to the cliff edge, and the wide angle lens, which cost more than I care to admit to here, traveled about 47 of them before finally nestling in a tuft of sea thrift. I was still shaking three hours after very carefully rescuing it.

I shared this photo with this story on various other social media and was chided by some people including a self styled "older eejit," namely my father, who quite rightly reminded me that while camera gear can be replaced, I can't.  I'm 53 by the way.  I decided not to share with him the fact that his other son was perched on the same cliff also cursing himself, albeit for the slightly less exciting mishap of changing lenses in the rain which resulted in two damp spots on his sensor.  Altogether an entertaining evening.........
