The view from here

            Standing on the summit of Stob Dearg at the southern end of Buachaille Etive Mor makes the climb worthwhile.  There seems to be a network of silver threads far below.  The views to the south along Rannoch Moor, with the Kingshouse Hotel not too far away, the confluence of the Coupall and Etive rivers, and Ben Lomond in the distance (I think! - am happy to be corrected) are a joy to behold, and I felt like the King of the World in the moments I spent alone surveying the world below. The noisy and frankly dangerous A82 dissects the scene before the spectator. I felt safer on top of a mountain.

Two years earlier we walked across the scene below on a memorable 96 mile hike along Scotland's West Highland Way, and it's still an adventure I reflect upon in a warm and hazy glow on an almost daily basis.

It's a lovely thing to be able to combine two great passions, photography and a love of the outdoors, and the Scottish Highlands must rank among the very best places to celebrate these simple pleasures. Fresh clean air, incredible scenery, and warm welcome are all around in copious quantities. So is the infamous Highland climate, but we don't need to talk about that do we?
