Westerkerk - a photo on Flickriver

Westerkerk

            Amsterdam is packed with appealing views, including this one of Westerkerk next to Prinsengracht canal, with the obligatory forest of bikes chained to the railings on the bridge in the foreground.  The church opened in 1631 and at 86m the steeple towers over the over buildings nearby.  You can climb the tower, which is one of many good reasons to return.  It's a stunning city.  The weather wasn't that great but the clouds were moving along nicely behind the spire and a long exposure caught that movement to a degree.

Just to the left, and unseen in this picture is the Anne Frank House and Museum, which makes it a place to stand and reflect upon a terribly tragic period in our history.  We couldn't get in this time because it was sold out for about 2 weeks beyond our visit.  Another reason why a second visit to Amsterdam is definitely going to happen soon.
