Memorial Porch of the Maitland Congregational Church with tablet commemorating Members of the Church who served during The Great War 1914–1919. Yorke Peninsula South Australia

            The first church building here was an iron structure and opened on Easter Sunday 1875: it was dubbed the ‘Iron King”.

This building cost £860 and was opened on 18 August 1883by Rev Thomas Hope. It had seating for 142 people.
In 1915 the Primary Room was added.

A Memorial Porch was opened 14 August 1921 by Brigadier General Leane in memory of the church members who served in World War One.

In 1968 the Congregational and Methodist Churches amalgamated to become the United Church and this building was no longer used by them.

In 1975 the church property of approximately 3 acres was given to the Congregational Homes for the Ages Inc on which Maitland’s Retirement Village has been built.
