HESR 3867 - Swan Creek

HESR 3867 rolls westbound over Swan Creek with 4 cars from LSRC in Paines.

Like other days, I knew of the MMRR operations ahead of time. So, I brought my camera with me to my graduation practice and left it in my truck. Once practice was over, I immediately hopped on the road and caught up to my father. With time to spare, I parked and headed to the riverbank to get set up. Thinking back at my other photos here, I didn't want to do "The Old Reliable". So, I took a couple steps back and crouched down under the road bridge.

Earlier in the week the MMRR recieved a 55 car shuttle grain grain destined for Hemlock. Running the 55 empties eastward over the line is no issue. However, running the 55 loads back westbound will not work. There is a steep hill going west into St Louis that deters the crews from being able to successfully take heavy trains west to interchange with only 1 engine.

With this issue in mind, the day's plan was to keep the 2169 in Hemlock on the grain train, drive to Genesee Yard and meet the 740 crew to grab another motor. Run the new motor westward to Hemlock (grabbing the LSRC inbound), double the grain loads to the short work, then head west to Alma. As most plans on the railroad, this wasn't exactly what happened... Anderson's in Hemlock wasn't able to get all 55 cars loaded today. So, the MMRR stuck with the original plan up to Hemlock. Once they spotted the other empties, they tied the motors down and called it a day.
