Burlington Northern 3512 3551 3509 WB Intermodal Sibley MO

            On a nice summer afternoon, we're set-up to photograph westbound Santa Fe action at Sibley, Missouri when along comes a double stack intermodal train led by two Burlington Northern GP40M's and one GP40E. June 22, 1996

With a matched set of clean standard cab locomotives leading, no one complained but we were somewhat baffled by this since the BN-Santa Fe merger was still six months away. Run-through power? Pool power? Or perhaps a detouring train due a derailment somewhere?...we never did find out.

All dressed in BN's final paint variation, the white face scheme, the consist included BN GP40M 3512, (ex CB&Q 180, built December, 1966), GP40E 3551, (ex CB&Q 174, built December, 1966) and GP40M 3509, (ex CB&Q 170, also built December, 1966).
