Le château de Wangenbourg - a photo on Flickriver

            Le château se trouve dans le petit village de Wangenbourg, à 480m d’altitude. Il fut érigé au XIIIe siècles en grès des Vosges par les sires de Wangen, sur un éperon rocheux naturel. Ce château servait de défense contre les pillards. Les villageois étaient accueillis dans le château afin d’être en sécurité.

The castle is located in the small village of Wangenbourg, at an altitude of 480m. It was erected in the 13th century in Vosges sandstone by the lords of Wangen, on a natural rocky spur. This castle served as a defense against looters. The villagers were welcomed into the castle in order to be safe.
