Borders Buses 11707 in Nicolson Street, Edinburgh at the start of its journey down the A7 to Galashiels.

            The vehicle is passing one of the gateways to Surgeons' Hall, home to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Departure from Edinburgh Bus Station was at 1200hrs and this X95 working will go as far as Hawick via Galashiels. It is still a two and a quarter hour journey to Hawick (50 miles) just as then Service 95 appears in the Eastern Scottish timetable book for Summer 1980. Nowadays the centre of Dalkeith is omitted.
This route was operated by First Scotland East until 25 Mar 2017 - Borders Buses (a subsidiary of Craig of Campbeltown Ltd best known its West Coast Motors bus services in Argyll and Bute) took over the following day. There are separate X95 workings between Galashiels, Hawick and Carlisle. The new bus will eventually be painted in the group's red and cream livery. Since Sep 2015, the route once again has rail competition, following the reopening of the Borders Railway between Edinburgh and Galashiels/Tweedbank. Looking into the past, direct SMT services between Edinburgh and Galashiels started 01 Aug 1927 and were extended to Hawick on 12 October the same year.
