Rosyth Station 100 years old. - a photo on Flickriver

            Class 158702 leads a four coach formation on 2G75 1447 hrs Edinburgh Waverley-Glenrothes with Thornton via Dunfermline at Rosyth station, Fife. The station, which is 14 miles and 52 chains from Edinburgh Waverley, was opened as Rosyth Halt, by the North British Railway on 01 Dec 1917, during the period when railways were under Government control in wartime. The large naval dockyard at Rosyth on the Firth of Forth was then under construction. Apart from the station, transport requirements for the workers led to the extension of Dunfermline and District Tramways from Dunfermline to the dockyard - mostly on reserved track - and this opened six months after the station on 17 May 1918. Queensferry Road, as a result, became the first dual carriageway in Scotland. Rosyth Halt lost the suffix c.1983 but interestingly, the Stagecoach bus ticket purchased on Service 19 - modern successor to the tramway main line - to reach the station printed “Rosyth Halt” as the fare stage, more than 30 years later! Rosyth has been served by Fife Circle train services since 1989.
