M8 Motorway looking south from St. Vincent Street, Glasgow.

This view looks south along the motorway from the St. Vincent Street overbridge towards Junction 19 (Anderston). There are only two lanes for through traffic on this section but by the time the motorway crosses the River Clyde ahead via the Kingston Bridge, there will be a total of ten lanes. Crossing the motorway beyond the overhead gantry is the Bothwell Street off ramp. This section of the motorway and its continuation under Charing Cross (behind the photographer) was particularly controversial because of the swathe of destruction it caused through Anderston and other neighbourhoods and the demolition of so many homes. Completion here was in February 1972. The section of the motorway here was on the boundary between the Charing Cross and Kingston Bridge contracts.
