Timetable history

            Lowland Scottish was one of the new Scottish Bus Group subsidiaries formed in 1985. The new company took over the Borders and East Lothian operations of Scottish Omnibuses Ltd (Eastern Scottish) and was based in Galashiels. SOL was the nationalised successor to SMT which had developed services across the Borders after purchasing Brook and Amos in 1926. SMT service from Edinburgh reached Galashiels, Selkirk and Hawick during 1927, extending to Carlisle in 1929. The Scottish Bus Group subsidiaries were privatised by the Conservative government with Lowland Scottish sold in 1990 and thereafter just using the fleetname, Lowland. The Galashiels based operator was snapped up by GRT Group in 1994, which would become FirstBus in 1995. Over the following years, First’s operations in the Borders contracted with the Edinburgh-Carlisle and Galashiels-Edinburgh via Peebles routes the last to go in 2017 being taken over by Berwick based Borders Buses who continue these and other Borders routes today.
