Strathclyde Buses LA 1204 at Bonnybank while taking part in the FHR Bus Bundle at Leven

            LA 1204 is a Leyland Atlantean (with Alexander AL bodywork) which was new to Greater Glasgow Passenger Transport Executive in 1977. That organisation became Strathclyde PTE in 1980. The orange (Strathclyde Red) livery was introduced by the PTE from 1983 replacing the earlier GGPTE white, yellow and green colour scheme which went through three iterations. At the same time, Strathclyde Transport became the organisation’s brand as well as the fleet name. In 1986, when the bus fleet was separated into an arm’s length company (Strathclyde Buses Ltd) at the time of bus deregulation, the fleet name became Strathclyde’s Buses. The vehicle initially entered service at Larkfield Depot in October 1977 but during its working life with SBL saw service from another four depots as well. The vehicle was sold to Glasgow City Council in 1997 and used as an exhibition vehicle. Today the vehicle is privately owned and home is the Bridgeton Bus Garage of the Glasgow Vintage Vehicle Trust. LA1204 was taking part in Fife Heritage Railway’s 2025 Bus Bundle event at Leven and is seen at nearby Bonnybank on one of the short trips available to visitors to the event.
