Besuch bei einer 217jährigen - a photo on Flickriver

Blick auf die Babisnauer Pappel auf den Höhenzügen südöstlich von Dresden.

Die Pappel (rechts im Bild) wurde 1808 von einem Bauern als Grenzmarke gepflanzt. Wie alt der Baum bei der Pflanzung war ist jedoch nicht bekannt. Der einzeln stehenden Baum entwickelte sich rasch zu einer markanten Landmarke. Er ist weithin sichtbar - bietet selbst aber auch eine weite Sicht auf Dresden und die umliegenden Gebirgszüge.

Ursprünglich war die Pappel 26 Meter hoch. Die Höhe hat sich jedoch nach mehreren Astausbrüchen auf etwa 17 Meter reduziert. Markanter ist deshalb heute die 1890 gepflanzte Bismarck-Eiche (links im Bild).

Seit 1885 besteht ein Aussichtsgerüst an der Babisnauer Pappel, die seit 1836 als Naturdenkmal geschützt ist.
