Being a masochist, I decided to exhaust myself and have a shattering day exacerbating my M.E., by travelling down the M1 (gross) to the Chilterns to see these for the first time.

I thought it was all going to be a waste of time. Called in at Sharpenhoe Clappers NR because of the M1 delays before Junction 11, saw nothing and got sidetracked by a dog walker obsessed with returning a lamb to its mother. We tried, impossible on our own. Eventually got through Dunstable to the site and saw nothing for 3 hours, despite a fellow photographer taking me to where he'd seen 4 earlier. Everything had gone to ground in the heat. Then as I'd given up and was walking (tottering) back to the car, I found 7 in three groups, all on the path, in the space of about 200 metres. Albeit reluctant to pose nicely.

Time to call in at Totternhoe Knolls and stagger about after Small Blues, before the horrific rush hour journey back up the M1 - and no paracetamols in the glove box - doh!
