Viking Ghost - a photo on Flickriver

Viking Ghost

            F104G Starfighter 26+72 this serial number was known as a Viking aircraft.
The German Navy formed a 2 ship aerobatic team named "Vikings" in 1979 within the Marinefliegergeschwader 2 (MFG2) at Eggebeck Naval Air Base.
The team officially performed their first display in 1983.
The Vikings participated in many national and international airshows. A second Vikings Team was established to display at two places at the same time.
With the withdrawal from service of the F104 the aerobatic team was disbanded in 1986.

I found this airframe at Nordholz Air Base 38 years after its retirement. 26+72 lost the red-white-blue color scheme representing the Flag of Schleswig Holstein.
